It’s raining shoes in Ahmedabad

Last night, I wondered whether India’s shadow prime minister would receive the same treatment as the prime minister in Ahmedabad. He sure did. cheap nikeThis time, a Hindu sadhu (holy man) hurled his footwear at BJP leader and prime ministerial candidate LK Advani, who is standing in a constituency in Gujarat. This happened hours after a student threw his shoe at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during a campaign meeting in the state. Politics is a great leveller.cheap james shoesbuy nfl jerseys
Shoes have certainly enlivened a relatively dull campaign. “It’s Raining Shoes in Ahmedabad”, screamed an excited front page headline in this morning’s local newspaper. “PM Singh ‘Shoet’ At In City,” says a tabloid headline, playing with words. Another paper said that shoes had become a popular “political missile”.cheap nfl jerseys

The motivations of India’s shoe-throwing brigade are varied. Some say they have thrown footwear to express their disgust with the slow justice system and joblessness. The computer science student who targeted the prime minister on Sunday told the police, according to a local paper, that he was driven by “instant publicity and not political inclinations”. The ochre-robed holy man who flung his footwear at Mr Advani was apparently unhappy that the powerful politician had not done enough to stop the slaughter of cows, which are sacred animals for Hindus.

Mr Advani must be a bit embarrassed though. He now has the dubious distinction of being the target of flying footwear for the second time during the campaign. To add to the embarrassment, on both occasions, supporters of his party and faith appear to have been the culprits.

To be fair to the politicians, all the shoe throwers have been “forgiven” for their sins. But some of their party members are clearly not taking this latest method of protest and publicity lightly. “It is indicative of the bad governance and poor law and order situation that prevails in the state,” a glum Congress party spokesman said. I don’t think voters in Gujarat, a BJP stronghold, are going to be impressed by this statement.

But the local police claim to be taking the “threat” from shoe throwers seriously. “We had received information three days ago that some people were being primed to throw shoes at [Congress leader party] Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh,” a senior policeman said. Another policeman claimed that they had removed a man who had turned up for Mr Advani’s meeting because they “suspected him to be a show-thrower”.

I have no idea how you spot a potential shoe thrower. jordan fushions shoesDoes he have a tic? Does he keep looking at his shoes? Does he move around without tying his laces? And will the police now ask people to remove their footwear to attend campaign meetings? Imagine thousands of barefoot Indians listening to their leaders in the meetings. Imagine armies of shoe throwers being trained in camps to hurl their missiles with precision. The mind boggles.puma fans

According to the indictment, quoted in local media, he harboured deep resentment against all judges following his divorce.

Mr Cohen walked into the public gallery of the Supreme Court in Jerusalem while they were considering a case relating to the use of marijuana for medical purposes, and reportedly asked if the judge present was the Supreme Court President.

He then stood up and yelled: “You corrupt person, you ruined my life!”

He then threw the training shoe at Mrs Beinish.

He was wrestled to the ground and arrested by court bailiffs.

A shoe For Barefoot Runners

It’s the latest trend in footwear: barefoot shoes.cheap adidas shoes
Several companies — Vibram, Nike, Terra Plana — are creating shoes that look sort of like gloves for your feet.googi jeans They’re minimalist, with a little pocket for each toe, and they’re catching on with a small but passionate community of runners who shun fancy, highly-engineered shoes and prefer to run as our shoeless ancestors did.cheap jordans

Guy Raz tried out a pair of Vibram’s “FiveFingers” shoes on the National Mall, a popular jogging spot in Washington, D.C.

Tourists stared in amusement as Raz ran down the gravel path, dressed in his work suit and a bright blue pair of FiveFingers shoes, chased by a producer carrying a big, fuzzy microphone.

“It actually feels pretty good running in these barefoot shoes,” Raz reports. “It almost feels like my feet know what to do intuitively.”

David Willey, editor-in-chief of Runner’s World magazine, points out barefoot running isn’t a new trend. But it has seen an uptick of popularity since the book Born to Run was published earlier this year.

“The life cycle of any product sort of ebbs and flows,” Willey says.

Willey notes that running shoes were invented in the ’70s by then University of Oregon track coach Bill Bowerman, who poured rubber compounds into his wife’s waffle iron. “And the modern running shoe was born.”

Bowerman went on to become a co-founder of Nike.

After that, companies kept adding new features for stability and motion control, but barefoot runners say those features change your gait, forcing your foot to fall near the heel and increasing the chance of injury.ca jeans

Willey says barefoot running can be helpful as a training exercise to build strength, but because we all run differently, it’s not for everyone.

“If you are a very efficient and biomechanically gifted cheap adidasrunner, running barefoot could probably work for you,” he says.

Willey says those wanting to experiment with barefoot running need to build up to it.
cheap adidas shoes
“If a lot of runners — or all the runners out there in America — did that tomorrow, the vast majority of them would get hurt very quickly and would have to stop running for a very long time.”

Willey acknowledges he does hear from some barefoot runners who say his magazine doesn’t give them a fair shake.

“We get people who believe in barefoot running saying that we are promoting running shoes for the wrong reasons.” But for the most part, he says, it’s not a partisan divide like the Apple/PC debate. “Running is a really great community, very collegial and very positive,” he says. “They’re pretty chill folks.”

That might be due to all the endorphins going through their body when they run.

“We’re all high as a kite,” Willey jokes.

Shoes are an American power pop band, formed in Zion, Illinois, in 1974 by brothers John and Jeff Murphy, and Gary Klebe and incorporating several different drummers over the years including Barry Shumaker, Skip Meyer, Ric Menck, John Richardson, cheap brand t-shirts

At the time none of the members knew how to play an instrument so each member picked an instrument to learn and promised to reunite within one year. Within the first year the 3 got back together to rehearse and eventually record their first album. Shoes’ biggest hit was “Too Late” (#75, November 1979) from the album Present Tense. The big radio hit in Chicago, their home town essentially, was “Tomorrow Night” in 1980 from the same album. Additional radio play included “She Satisfies” and “Karen” from 1981’s Tongue Twister, “Curiosity” and “Mayday” from 1982’s Boomerang, and “Feel The Way That I Do” from 1990’s Stolen Wishes, which was also included in the movie ‘Mannequinn II’.cheap eyeglasses

When MTV went on the air on August 1, 1981, the channel aired four of Shoes’ videos: “Too Late”, “Tomorrow Night”, “Cruel You” and “In My Arms Again”, making Shoes one of the first bands to be shown on MTV. The band went on to do three more videos: “In Her Shadow” (1982), “When Push Comes To Shove”(1985) and “Feel The Way That I Do” (1991).

Shoes also formed their own record label, Black Vinyl brand tRecords, and owned and operated their own commercial recording studio (Short Order Recorder) from 1983 to 2004. Many artists recorded at the studio and some went on to sign major label recording contracts, including Local H and Material Issue.

Duff wants new WNY veterans cemetery built in Dunkirk

MAYVILLE – County Legislator Bob Duff wants Dunkirk to be the site of a new National Veterans Cemetery being considered for Western New York.

During the legislature’s February meeting, Duff, a Republican from Sheridan, asked that correspondence from Len Schrantz be read into the record. In his letter, Schrantz suggested that Route 60 at Williams Street in Dunkirk might make for a perfect spot for such a cemetery.

Duff asked the legislature to pass a motion in support of the idea to try and get the cemetery built in Chautauqua County as opposed to Rochester or Buffalo.

A Bath cemetery, in Steuben County, is the closest current National Veterans Cemetery. The Obama administration is proposing a new cemetery for Western New York as part of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ 2011 budget.

“This is a once in a lifetime trip for a lot of people that did a lot for this country,” Duff said of veterans.

Schrantz also suggested that the many veterans groups of the county meet and work together to secure the new National Veterans Cemetery locally in Northern Chautauqua County.

“It’s my understanding that it would be a multimillion dollar project,” Duff said. “If we all work together, we can give it a try. I know that it’s something that comes along with the IDA. It is industrial development. It is something that could create jobs to do this. All veterans, and people that work for a living, should support this and hope through the help of the county executive and all the leadership in the county that we can get something done.”

Dunkirk Fire: Health Clinic & Court Impacted

DUNKIRK, NY - All court business at Chautauqua County’s Dunkirk satellite office, as well as all Dunkirk Health Department Clinic operations, are on hold after a major fire Wednesday night on Central Avenue.

The fire started before 6pm in a building at 323 Central Avenue. There were people in the building at the time, but everyone got out safely.

While the investigation is still officially underway, Dunkirk Fire Captain Alan Loeb tells Channel 2 News’ Ron Plants it looks like the huge blaze started on the first floor of the Masonic Lodge building and was caused by an electrical problem.

The lodge housed some Chautauqua County government offices. That building, as well as One Liberty Place next door, also housing some county offices, will have to be demolished. An effort is underway to recover the Lodge’s 1908 cornerstone and other Masonic memorobilia located in the basement.

The Graf Building, on the other side of the Masonic Lodge, was damaged, but officials think it can be saved.

At the height of the fire, 7,000 gallons of water a minute was poured onto the structures. Fire crews ran out of city water and had to turn to Lake Erie for more.

All court matters scheduled for the Dunkirk satellite will now be held in Mayville. Notices will be going out to everyone affected of a new date and the new location. All court records are kept in Mayville, so none were lost or destroyed in the fire.

Public transportation to Mayville can be arranged by calling 1-800-556-8553 1-800-556-8553 . Anyone with questions about a pending court matter can call the Chief Clerk’s office at 753-4100. Updated information will be posted at www.footlocker.com.

Anyone with an appointment with the Probation Offices in Dunkirk are excused for the next 3 to 5 days. Any questions, you are asked to call the Jamestown office at 661-8011.

If you have a Social Services question, call 753-4590.

For mental hygiene questions you can call Mayville at 753-4104 or Jamestown at 661-8330.

Veterans can call Jamestown at 661-8255 or 363-8255 (toll free from Dunkirk).

All Dunkirk Health Department Clinic operations have been suspended until further notice and the phone lines temporarily disabled. Patients that had scheduled appointements should call 753-4491 for information.
